Give your communications a home
A server is necessary to access the decentralized world of digitally sovereign, interoperable and real time communications. The best way to host a server will differ by use case.
If you want to build your own Matrix-based solution from scratch, you can download the open source code from Element on GitHub.
These options can be suitable in some community use cases but are unsupported. We don’t recommend this solution for public sector organizations.
Element Starter Core, available on GitHub and OpenCoDE, provides all you need to set up and run. It’s best for those familiar with Helm charts.
Element Starter Core gives public sector organizations a free, simplified Matrix homeserver with basic backend functionality for up to 200 users.
Element Server Suite (ESS) is a ‘plug and play’ self-hosted Matrix stack, easy to deploy with enhanced enterprise-grade capabilities to significantly ease management and maintenance.
Almost any Matrix-based frontend can work with the ESS backend. ESS runs on open networks as well as secured or air-gapped networks in public or private federations with other Matrix servers.
